Police officials in Niles, Illinois are turning to the public for help in locating a man they say tried to lure a girl who was waiting for the school bus.

CBS Chicago reports that around 7:10 a.m. on Friday, an identified man approached a girl, whose name and age have been withheld, in the 7200 block of West Conrad Avenue and asked for directions to a restaurant. It was reported that he later asked if she wanted to hang out with him in lieu of going to school.

When the school bus arrived at the location, police say that a parent witnessed the interaction between the man and the girl and immediately told her to get on the bus, which prompted the man to walk away.

Authorities say that the man left the scene in a 2000s Toyota Highlander that had been parked near the school bus stop.

The suspect is described as a “250-pound, 6-foot white man, about 40 years old, with brown hair and eyeglasses,” police say.

If anyone has information regarding the suspect’s whereabouts or his identification, you are urged to contact the Niles Police Department.
